This small batch California Picual was harvested from groves in the Capay Valley. It has a sweet, fruity nose and displays notes of stone fruit: peaches and apricots plus some floral characteristics. The finish is peppery with some astringency. While Picual is the most prolific variety in the world, it is exceedingly rare in California.

TASTING NOTES  

This limited production early Kalamata has intense pepper on the finish and is highly astringent with notes of arugula, green tea and floral hints of citrus blossom. The combination of picking the fruit at an extremely low green maturity index (early harvest) and minimal processing resulted in high phenol content and of more significance, a very high amount of Oleocanthal at 396.8 ppm. Last year this antioxidant powerhouse tied for 1st place overall in the Worlds Healthiest Olive Oil Competition and took 1st place in the Oleocanthal Category! (NMR phenols* = 1,919 of which Oleocanthal is 1,462).

This early harvest Kalamata is sweet and fragrant with notes of rose petal, artichoke and a creamy mouth feel followed by a wallop of pepperiness consistent with high Oleocanthal content.  The combination of picking the fruit early, at an extremely low green maturity index and minimal processing has resulted in high phenol content but more significant: extraordinarily high and healthful amounts of the antioxidant Oleocanthal (338.1 ppm) (NMR phenols* = 1,576 of which Oleocanthal is 1,022).

This early harvest high phenol Velagosht is the first of its kind in North America. An extremely robust evoo with sweet floral notes, unripe green almond and baking spice, Velagosht or “The red olives of Berat” is an Albanian indigenous olive variety first  found  in the village of Velagosht in the outskirts of Berat, a  2400-year-old UNESCO world heritage city well known for its olives. We’ve worked very hard alongside our partner farm, Malasi Olive Oil, who processed this oil to our exacting methods. Lingering pepper and balanced bitterness.
